Patriotism. “Give me liberty or give me death.” “We the
people.” “…life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness…” The 14th
Amendment. The 2nd Amendment. “…a government of the people, by the
people and for the people…”
All of these notions, and others like them, careen through
history, gather history and time and again land at our feet. When it comes to
American values the past is never past. It’s our responsibility as citizens to
act as citizens in the light of these values.
