Have you noticed? If a notable high school athlete commits
to a major university, then that is worthy of a TV news interview. But if a
high school scholar gets perfect scores on the ACT and SAT or competes in the
Math Olympics or wins a National Science Fair competition, that goes virtually
unnoticed.
Have you noticed? When the notable high school athlete discusses
his university of choice, nothing is said about the quality of education that
athlete will get.
Have you noticed? Most of the athletes interviewed on TV are
male.
Have you noticed? For TV news, intelligence is not nearly as
sexy as sports.
Have you noticed? Is there a math or science booster club or
an arts booster club for every sports booster club?
