The media

The media presents us with a landscape of war, brutality, violence and hate. This is what they believe we should hear and want to hear. This bears down on us and darkens our view of the world. Where do we find hope?

We get hope stories of bravery, self-sacrifice and courage; but these are just blips that come and go in a day. Love gets little credibility as news, even when it shows its real power. And love is too often presented as sentimental, flabby or romantic.

In truth, love is more powerful than we realize; but we have to recognize that its power is released when we are willing to do the necessary work. We must affirm this in our own personal experience, but the media must see love at work in the world as unquestionably newsworthy.
