Decent

As far as I’m concerned, the foundation of K-12 education should be the formation of decent human beings. What could be a more valuable contribution to a healthy society? If this is what drives learning in academic disciplines, then truth, common good and purpose would direct that learning. What is taught would have purpose in the formation of the individual and his/her responsibilities to the world. Career education would have an underlying moral basis.

Decency is independent of any particular religion or race or ethnicity, but should be the concern of all of them. Decency has expectations reflected in behavior. And decency would remind us of the civility and brotherhood we all share but seem to have left behind.
