We forget that there are still shepherds
And myths that are not lies.
We forget that people still dance in the dirt
To understand the message of the skies.
We forget that children
Are the most important things in life.
We forget that life must be lived
Before we can hope understand it.
We forget that nature owes its workings
To the guts of termites.
We forget that we are the inventions
Of randomness.
We forget how hard an oak must work
To live out its century.
We forget stars are not eternal
So God has been evicted.
We forget how relentlessly love
Asks of us the impossible.
