Belief

If we live under the belief that the world is at root a good and rational place, we are frustrated and disappointed at every turn. Why does God allow evil? Why did this tragedy happen to my family? Why this natural disaster? Why is pain in the world? All questions whose answers elude us.

If live under the belief that the world is at root random, irrational, absurd and doesn’t give a damn about us, then what we’ve accomplished as thinking human beings becomes worthy, even glorious. We didn’t give in. We didn’t back down. We didn’t let ourselves be defeated by a world out of our control. Despite all our human failures, what we’ve achieved has made God proud.
