Republicans are currently claiming that the impeachment
process is happening simply because Democrats hate Donald Trump--an example of
the childishness we see in politics these days. When Trump was first elected,
Democrats were in shock—as Trump just might have been himself. Hate could then
have been an expected, but still not very mature, response.
Now Democrats are light years beyond hate. They are
disgusted, discouraged, frustrated and fearful of the consequences for the
nation. If we ever believed in the idea of American values and in respect for
the Presidency, we can’t find them affirmed in the Trump presidency. His
“great” America has lost America her primacy and standing in the world. His
narcissism requires him to live in a world of personal superlatives while world
leaders mock him. He surrounds himself
with yes men in a political environment which is unstable and chaotic. Blind
loyalty is the test for those her hires, and many leave his service with
frustration or charges of corruption. He is crude, inarticulate and lacking in
true leadership skills. And he has been caught.
Hate is an immature and futile emotion, properly left
behind. There’s too much in Trump’s own behavior to bring him his due.
