We old folks need to remember that our real task in life is
not to accumulate wealth but to accumulate wisdom. The enthusiastic young, with
their energy and urgency but their still-developing brains, need all the wisdom
we can inflict on them.
But the young look around and see their elders holding onto
power, wanting the world to fit the elders’ vision, failing the young time and
time again. The elders are claiming the world as theirs not preparing a world
of hope for the young. Hope becomes scarce when violence and discrimination are
so prevalent, when the future of the natural world is so compromised and when
there is such spiritual decline.
Wisdom doesn’t come cheap. But it should be freely given.
