Laws are written by lawyers in legalize with great nuance
and an attempt to capture the complexity of the problems addressed by the laws.
But I think we could simplify the whole system if we replaced as many laws as
possible with the one law:
“Don’t act like and asshole.”
There could be 10 degrees of breaking the “Don’t act like an
asshole” law. We all know when someone is acting like an asshole, and all the
jury has to do is decide the degree level and send it to the judge to pass
sentence. This would reduce the need for fancy lawyers, move the justice
process along more quickly and undoubtedly make for greater fairness.
In the end, there would be no stigma for being a criminal.
You’d just be a degree
1-10 asshole.
