Hate, fear, love

Hate and fear corrode a culture, and they poison the soul of the individual who embraces them. Yet hate and fear are easy to embrace and effective tools for manipulating people. We want to belong, sometimes at any cost.

The religions of love claim billions of followers. Yet those who follow these religions are often the worst perpetrators of hate and fear. When hate crimes take the form of mass killings, religious leaders offer prayers, but never come together under the aegis of love to offer a common condemnation. They each stay comfortably in their own backyards.

If love is the cornerstone, why isn’t the full power of love put to work?
