Chasing art

For a while now, I’ve been trying to figure out what art is in a world where everything is art. In approaching this problem, I was sometimes confused, sometimes arrogant, sometimes thoughtful and never successful.
Critics, galleries, curators and museums aim at the artist as the key, usually leaving the idea of art out of the equation. But it’s just as elusive to try to figure out what it means to be an artist.
So why even do this at all? For me it’s an effort to clear up a muddle, to question standards, to challenge myself, to be objective about my own work, to be an effective mentor and teacher.
And if I get too mixed up, I can just ask Judge Judy.
