The State U. art cheerleaders, the Basquiettes, accompanied
the Film and Performance team to New York. But they had to pay their own way
because the athletic department would only release so many dollars. They took a
chartered bus, and on the way practiced their signature formations, the Eiffel
Tower, the Di Suvero thrust, the Bourgeois spider.
The night of the first competition, they were legitimately credited
with firing up the State U. team, who went on to a decisive win against the
team from Pratt. Even the arrest of the Basquietts for performing the Di Suvero
thrust drunk and naked in Times Square did not dampen the spirits of the team.
They were out of jail in time for next State U. performance.
