Notes on Nature

Notes on Nature #5

The spider makes a web with strands that are strong and flexible. The spider’s web becomes a metaphor for the system in which the web was made. This web of nature, strong and flexible, links all of creation. Humans observe the web as if they were not a part of it. Not Darwin, but Little Miss Muffett.

Notes on Nature #6

The seas are a world within a world. With limits on our diving eyes, we will never fully know the complexity and variety within this mysterious world. The singing whales and the intelligent octopi tease us. The critters of the sea explode with color. Why? They swim in mathematical dances. Why? They are food for one another and food for us. I wonder if there is a creature in the sea for every star?
