Evil

From the beginning of human consciousness, our species has struggled with the duality of good and evil. Evil has been a god, an angel, a spirit, a demon, a monster, a devil, a plague and more. Evil was thought to be out there, when it is truly in us. There is no evil in nature. Whatever is evil in the world is put there by us.

Evil acts with no bounds, no rules, no conscience, deluded by a sense of its power. Evil rewards itself with material and temporal pleasures. In the face of this, good has to live by its values, by its conscience, by the standards it sets for itself. Its rewards are in its courage and integrity and the satisfaction of doing right.

The question is why do we choose evil over good? Are good and evil fluid aspects of the human experience? Is love not a powerful enough force to dissuade us from evil? Is evil the easy path, the path that takes no courage?

This is the choice we all make, in the little situations or on the big stage, because we are all creatures of good and evil.
