Yesterday I had the honor and privilege of singing a Karoake
duet of “Baby It’s Cold Outside.” I’m no macho sexist, but it seemed to me
worthwhile to make a statement, however small and inept, on the current banning
of this 70-year-old song.
#METOO has made a significant impact on awareness of sexual
harassment issues, but seeing this song as an approval of date rape is a
stretch. There’s plenty enough to be concerned with now: campus sexual
behavior, sexually provocative pop lyrics, raunchy and evocative dance moves,
inappropriate and prurient sexual behavior and rape scenes in entertainment
media.
So I’ve fessed up. The devil made me do it.
