Values

 When the citizens of a society don’t understand the necessity of personal values, the society will crumble. In our times, religion has not been able to make the case for values to live by. Certainly government doesn’t. Capitalism subverts values. The family is not reliable either. Our “heroes” in sports and entertainment often have feet of clay. The arts can be counted on, but they are not always on the radar of most citizens.

As a result, we are tirelessly in social conflict over issues—like racism, inequity, discrimination, gender—that would not be as contentious in a society that embraces human values.
