Let us pour acclaim on our entertainers. Let us give them Kennedy honors, and Oscars, Emmys, Toni’s, Golden Globes, photo shoots, red carpets, glimmering banquets, football player of the week awards, rings, parades, lots of cash in their pockets and news stories about their generosity. Is that even enough?
Perhaps we can scrape together a little time and attention for the first responders, the medical workers, the police, the needy veterans, the advocates for the homeless and the hungry, the addiction counselors, the refugee caregivers, the spiritual advisors and the mental health workers. We have little money to put in their pockets, and they work tirelessly.
But then again, they don’t entertain us.
