Respectful citizens

Our President—a lying, bullying, name-calling narcissist—is poisoning the American psyche. Certainly no model for responsible citizens. So it’s important to ask what kind of family and social structures can produce respectful citizens.  In my experience, respectful people are not criminals. Respectful people show empathy. Respectful people understand the rights and needs of others.

But here we are with music blaring out of car windows, litter everywhere, road rage, cell phone rudeness, takers on the take, my-me-mine defining the culture. Civility on the decline and divisiveness on the rise for decades.

So, again, what kind of family and social structures can produce respectful citizens and how can we build them?
