Divisiveness

We spend so much time and concern trying to sort out issues of race, gender, ethnicity and sexual orientation. In the end, our tactics are almost certainly divisive, separating people into these unnecessary dualities.

It seems to me it would be more useful to separate people according to those who were decent and those who were not, those who were responsible and those who were not, those who were compassionate and those who were not. Those categories would cross race, gender, ethnicity and sexual orientation and bind people across boundaries, breaking down stereotypes.

Race, gender, ethnicity and sexual orientation are natural aspects of human diversity and should be celebrated. Considering qualities like decency, responsibility and compassion focus us on how to become better human beings.
