Immigration

Most human beings just want a decent life for themselves and their families. For many, this is impossible due to climate change, despotic governments, corporate greed, unequal distribution of wealth, corruption, ineffectual governments and more. Hence unprecedented migration, which won’t go away.

Instead of addressing root causes, governments are using sandbag solutions in hopes that this will stem the flood. They blame immigrants and fail to recognize their own culpability.

We also, as individuals, have some responsibility to our human neighbors. We live in a culture in which luxuries have become necessities. Yet for the cost of an annual subscription to Netflix or a monthly dinner out, an individual could pay for the education of a needy child in a poor country.

I wish we were better at solving our problems than fighting about them.
