I’m a sucker for historical costume dramas. As I was
watching “Elizabeth I,” I had a thought. If it weren’t for the artists—painters,
craftsmen, jewelry makers, architects, fashion designers, tapestry makers and
so forth—these people begin portrayed, people of power, wealth, prestige and
anointed by God, would be running around half-naked in the forests.
Is there a lesson in that for us as artists today?
