Costume dramas

I’m a sucker for historical costume dramas. As I was watching “Elizabeth I,” I had a thought. If it weren’t for the artists—painters, craftsmen, jewelry makers, architects, fashion designers, tapestry makers and so forth—these people begin portrayed, people of power, wealth, prestige and anointed by God, would be running around half-naked in the forests.

Is there a lesson in that for us as artists today?
