Aretha had the voice, and it was her voice, filled with the
pain and struggle and soul of her life. It surely became the voice for many.
But what we often forget is that each of has a voice, our own
voice. Too often this voice is kept hidden within us because we feel it is too
small or too inarticulate or too empty. But it is the voice of each of us as a
human being. It is uniquely ours; and when we use it and nurture it, we find
our own humanity.
