Freedom

 Freedom and responsibility must be mates, otherwise freedom is cheap and flabby. But freedom and discipline must also be mates. Whenever we make a choice to enter a program of learning—the arts, the military, medicine, athletics, etc.—we give up some of our freedoms to be led and directed by others. If we do the required training, exercises, practice and study, we gain the discipline that allows us to act with assurance, skill and creativity. This is freedom.
