We have sorely maligned the word “fuck.” It used to be a reliable indicator of low class. And it used to be a lovely way for ladies and gentlemen to add some impact to what they had to say.
Now it flows out of the mouths of seniors and teen girls and everybody in between. It’s the most used adjective in the English language. It’s a required part of every TV and movie script. It’s become a sign of faux-maturity. We’ve made it a flabby shadow of its former self.
So, in deference to fuck, use “bugger” instead.
