If I produced the local evening news…
There would be no time for newscaster chitchat.
For every minute of sports coverage, there would be a minute
of arts coverage.
There would be no interviews with athletes who spoke in
clichés.
If a person on the street got interviewed, that person would
get more than a sentence to say, and the interviewer would shut up.
No reporter would have to go out in bad weather just to
remind us to stay inside.
No reporter would report on a crime scene by blocking our
view of the crime scene.
No reporter would have to get dressed in designer clothes in
the middle of the night to cover a shooting.
The weather would be kept to necessary minimum reporting.
There would be no reporting on national news stories that
would be reported again on the national news.
Arts coverage would be treated with the same attention and
respect that athletes get.
Any crime reporting would educate about how the system
works, not just cover the gore and drama.
Being the best coverage would be more important than being
the first coverage.
Breaking news would be supported by news with relevant
context.
