I rarely play golf, and I’m terrible at it when I do. I don’t
follow golf on TV, yet I know all about Tiger Woods. He’s big news.
(Congratulations, Tiger. Now go buy a Rolex watch.) I admire his skill and what
he has overcome, but I personally would rather hear about the ordinary
individuals who have overcome poverty, debilitating conditions or tragic life
circumstances without all the support and resources of a Tiger.
Celebrity is like an invasive species. It wipes out
everything in its media way. Celebrity always wants and demands more celebrity.
The ordinary person who overcomes adversity doesn’t want celebrity but is the
one who truly deserves it.
