Why must we accumulate all these fears that do nothing but
cage us into our ethnic, social, sexual, gender or class groups. Increasing the
fear of the other increases the resistance of the other, which increases the
fear of the other. A vicious cycle.
How easy these fears can be fanned. A flood of immigrants,
each with a gun and a pack of children. A rampant plague of pedophile
homosexuals. Black women wresting control of Congress from the white sages.
We become manipulated by those who manipulate our fears. We
give up our ability to think for ourselves. We forget that, at root, we are all
humans wanting the same basic things. In the end it’s not gender, ethnicity,
sexual orientation or class, but whether each individual behaves as a
responsible member of society and a decent human being.
