Human beings evolved into social creatures. Their social
nature created families, tribes and other forms of community to work, feed
themselves, build shelter, provide security and propagate. They were bound
together by blood, duty, loyalty, fear…and love, as humans came to invent it.
But love is elusive. Where it comes from, what it can do,
how it is defined by and embedded in culture and how it is practiced are not
constant. Often it is defined in relationship to its opposition, hate. Love is
demanding and hard while hate is an easy seducer.
Hate builds walls to create the illusion of safety, when in
fact it creates only fear. Love deepens as it pushes outward, driven by its own
courage and necessity.
