Refugees

At the cost of hundreds of millions of dollars we will have a large enough US army contingent at the border to face the refugee caravan with a ratio of multiple soldiers to each refugee.

If we just opened the border and let all the refugees in, that would not replace the number of Americans killed in suicides, mass shootings, accidental gun deaths and gun murders.

In this booming economy there are probably many jobs that need filling that Americans don’t want to do but refugees would be glad to do.

Americans would be more understanding, if not compassionate, if they would recognize how our drug use and government intervention in their countries makes us partially responsible for the circumstances that lead them to leave their homes in desperation.

We also forget how much immigrants—Chinese, Japanese, African, Latin American, Irish and more—have contributed to the building of America.

This is just one consequence of Trump’s “America first” policy. As a country we too often look in the same narcissistic mirror that Trump does. To our detriment we see nothing past ourselves.
