I’ve written before about ritual, manhood and sexuality and
how these ideas are so hard to sort out in a society so saturated with confused
and confusing messages about sex.
Let me know what you think about this. A group of
like-minded men (a tribe) comes together with their pubescent sons at a meeting
place (a lodge, say) for an overnight discussion of sex. The men have a chance
to strategize and share. The boys have a chance to share and become
comfortable. The entire group meets together. The men give an open and honest
presentation of the mechanics of sex, the responsibilities of sexual behavior,
sexual health, sexual pleasure and protection and sex and aging. The boys are
free to ask questions of any kind any time.
I think this would create healthy bonds between all
participants from this time on. They would have an open and informed attitude
about sex to counter the distorted messages of media and marketing. Thoughts?
