The devil made me do it

The comedian Flip Wilson used to say: “The Devil made me do it.”
That sentence could really be today’s mantra.

Young white men are not responsible for the rapes they commit.
Child bullies are not responsible for the harm they do to others.
Congress is not responsible for partisan gridlock.
Doctors are not responsible for any of the opioid epidemic.
Men are not responsible for the babies the help make.
Americans are not responsible for the debt they get themselves into.
Donald Trump is not responsible for the illegals he hires.
The banks were not responsible for the financial crisis.
Guns are not responsible for the deaths they make happen.
Hit and run drivers fail run from the responsibility for the injuries they perpetrate.
Athletes are not responsible for their domestic abuse.
Priests are not held accountable for their sexual crimes.
Dictators are not responsible for the humanitarian abuses upon their people.
Evangelists are not responsible for their sexual indiscretions.
Nobody’s children are responsible for any of the trouble they get into.
Donald Trump is not responsible for his Revolutionary War airport gaffe.

From “the twinkie defense” to “affluenza” to “he comes from a good family” to “we just didn’t know,” it’s the devil who made them do it.
