The influence of organized religion has been diminished. Organized religions have become corrupt, political, out of touch with contemporary life, oppositional to one another and even violent. Organized religion has not offered a spiritual practice that is meaningful to young people. Too often their rituals and ceremonies no longer inspire.
Organized religion was, at one time, the source of moral direction, especially for young people. It was for me. Without religious practice, it is hard for people to acquire and question a set of moral values to guide them through life. As a result, the young, particularly, are confused about freedom, personal values, communal responsibility and spirituality. No community or country can thrive without a set of values which its people live. Where are ours?
