The mid-level bureaucrats who keep Washington and the nation
going, I believe, are generally caring and hard-working individuals who believe
that what they do is important to the running of the country. But go up the
ladder to the top, and that’s where you find the swamp dwellers. But it’s more
than the swamp. It’s a den of thieves, a nest of vipers, a temple of greed and
corruption, a snake pit, a pigsty, a cancer ward, a devil’s den and a slush
pit.
I guess it’s finally hit me as to why we have all these
phrases in our language.
